●約束
■いわゆるクルマ好きと呼ばれる我々の心に、何かしら想いを抱かせてくれるクルマには、全て共通する「あるひとつのこと」がある。
■いわばそれは、約束、のようなものである。心ときめかせ、思い入れ、信じることができるクルマは皆、そうした要素を持っている。もちろんそれはクルマの成り立ちであったり、クルマを構成するレイアウトやメカニズムであったり、作り手の想いの深さだったり、送り出すメーカーの姿勢だったり…と、ありとあらゆる部分に見出すことができるものだ。そうした要素は、いくつあれば良い…という条件めいたものではない。それはクルマによって違う。
■ただそれでも、ひとつだけ確実になければいけないものがあるとするならば、それは「継続」ということかもしれない。継続が失われると、もうこの先、心ときめかせ、思い入れ、信じることができない…ということになり、それはとても悲しいことである。
■NSXは昨年生産中止を発表すると同時に、後継車的な存在を明らかにし、それを開発中であるというアナウンスをした。しかし僕はそこに、約束を見出せなかった。なぜなら、継続という要素が抜け落ちていたからである。後継車の存在を明らかにしたことは確かに、ひとつの継続であり約束のように思える。しかし、真の継続ならばそこに空白の時間はないはずである。そこに空白の時間があるということはつまり、今開発されているものが後継車的存在ではあるけれど、成り立ちもレイアウトもメカニズムも作り手の想いもメーカーの姿勢も、これまでとは違うものであると言っているに等しいのだと僕は想う。そうしたものに、心ときめかせ、思い入れ、信じろというのは難しい。しかもこれまでの継続と同じような継続がなされるかどうかは当然約束されていない。こうしてひとつだけ確実になければならないものが、なくなってしまったのだ。
■継続がなぜ大切なのかといえば、それこそがオーナーにとっても最も重要な約束になるからである。成り立ちもレイアウトもメカニズムも作り手の想いもメーカーの姿勢も、継続なくしては存在しえないし約束もなされない。継続がなされれば、オーナーは誇りに感じ今の愛車を乗り続けることができる。もしこの先、事故にあったりクルマが壊れてしまったり事情があって手放さなければならなくなったり…そういうことが仮にあっても、継続という約束がなされていれば、オーナーは常に安心することができる。そう、帰る場所（あるいは自分の心の拠り所）がいつでも用意されているということ。とても大切なことだ。
■ポルシェ911はもう、40年以上に渡って継続してきた。この長い継続が果たした約束はあまりに大きい。しかも911は歴史の中で、消滅の危機にさえ瀕したこともある。それでもなお継続がなされたからこそ、いま911の我々に対する約束というのは計り知れないほど絶大なものとなっている。
■日本ではマツダ・ロードスターが唯一そうした1台である。そしてNSXも昨年まではそうした存在だった。しかしNSXの継続は絶たれ、約束は失われた。
■いま僕の手元にあるNSX-Rは、改めて未だ一級の走りだと思える。傍らにあるポルシェ911に比べてもまだ、ある部分ではアドバンテージすら持っている。だからクルマとしては、非常に強く思い入れることができる。誇りを感じることもできる。モノにはしっかりとした約束がなされていることは確かだ。
■しかし一方で、これほどの逸材がもう公式に世の中には存在していないのだと思うと、とてもやりきれない気持ちになってしまう。だからその素晴らしさを知れば知るほどに、ツラくなっていくのである。
■そうした想いを抱きながら、NSX-Rとの生活を送るのはとても悲しい。傍らには、これからも約束がなされている911やロードスターがあるのだからなおさらである。
■オーナーとしては、911やロードスターに思い入れる方がずっと心が穏やかだ。なぜならそこには継続が確かになされており、約束されている未来もきちんとあるからである。

「継続」とても納得できる言葉です。NSXが継続できな理由は確かに理解できます。しかし同時に寂しいのも確かです。シルビアが販売中止される時に、いろいろな理由が言われました。排ガス規制に対応できなかった。それほどコストを掛けれない…。しかし、ターボエンジンはX-TRAILに残され、グレードはワングレードで維持できたのではないでしょうか？

そうやって、いろいろな理由で消えていった車は沢山あります。
ですが現在は、さらに大きな理由で「継続」を不可能にする事態が発生していると感じます。それは石油燃料の枯渇です。ガソリンエンジンの消滅です。
これによって、NSXの重要なパーツがきえてしまいませんか？ロードスターは、エンジンが無くても成立するかもしれません。しかしNSXは…。911も難しいかもしれません…。ほかには、RX-8やスバル全般など…。
この対策に費やす時間が、今の充電期間だと考えるのは多少無理があるでしょうか。しかし、ガソリンエンジンが消えた場合に、エモーショナルな部分は何で構成するのでしょうか…。ですから、水素エンジンに個人的には期待しています。
随分話がそれてしまいましたが、「継続」は非常に重要なことだと思います。3シリーズやEクラスは、継続してますしね。

まさに、「継続は力なり」ですね。
頑ななまでに過去のスタイルを継承しているように見せて、実は時代に対応した形に適応させることが継続するための技術なのではないかと思います。
そして継続させることが、自社の製品の魅力を高めることに繋がることをよく理解しているからこそ、継続が出来るのでしょうね。
なんだかややこしくなってきましたが、偶然？なのか、河口様と私とは年齢も近く、”継続”している二台のクルマを持っていることも似ています（私の二台は両方ともずいぶんoldモデルですけどね）。
”継続すること”に思いをはせながら、この週末はドライブしてみようかと考えています。

継続はオーナーに取ってはとても大切な事なのですが、と言うか何時かは所有したいと思っている人にとっても大切だと思いますが一つ海外のメーカーとの違いはメーカー自体の方向性が継続していると言う事だと思います。
国内メーカーはその様な事が薄いですよね。
ポルシェはメーカーとして継続した車作りをしていますが、ＮＳＸは車種でありメーカーとしての継続では無いと思います。
ＮＳＸは昨年生産終了となり継続は無くなりましたが、何時かは来る時と感じてましたよ。
ホンダではんく高根沢と言う事が大切な事だたと思うからです。鈴鹿に行こうした時点で何時と言う感じでしたからね。
反面９１１は自社の代表者でも有るしポルシェとしての車ですよね。その辺が継続していく事が出来る事だと思いますし、ユーザーとしての
ファンとしての人々が多いと言うか希望されているからこそ継続して進歩してきていると思います。

あのマツダでさえ、時代の趨勢に合わないロータリーを造り続けているのに、ホンダはNSXよりも売れているインテグラさえ消滅させました。
NSX生産中止の数年後に、間隔を置いて新たな高級スポーツを造るとしても、既にＮＳＸとは別次元の車になるでしょうし、ＮＳＸユーザーの乗り換えが進むとは限らないかも知れませんね？
その間日本の車好きユーザーには、Ｓ２０００とアコード・ユーロＲ以外の新車の選択肢は永らく皆無になりそうですし、今後私もＳＷ２０の最終型を乗り続けるものの、ＭＲ－Ｓでさえ何時消滅するか不安です・・・。

福祉関連の仕事をしている知人が、『儲け度外視でやるのが福祉・社会貢献だろ』、と言う人に対して、『継続できなければ社会貢献にもならない、それはボランティアだ』、と言い返せないことをいつも歯がゆく思っている・・・と言ってました。
継続というのはすごく重いことだと思います。
